Sydney Coffee Spots

During my one week in Sydney, I visited various coffee places. City centre seems to have a lot of espresso bars that open into the street and may or may not have limited seating available. Lots of these cafes serve excellent drinks, however, they do not offer any brewed coffee (which is a shame for drip coffee addicts like myself). But not to worry because people who love their fresh brew just have to make shorts trips to cool suburbs where there are plenty of spots available with excellent choice of single origins for pour over as well as cold brew.

Third Village Coffee – cute street espresso bar in Kings Cross area, helped me with my jetlag by offering an excellent flat white upon my arrival in this city. They also have a special on for muffins which only cost $2 when you buy any coffee.

Double Barrel Coffee Merchants – excellent coffee kiosk at Wynyard station in city centre. Great espresso and very friendly service.

Gumption by Coffee Alchemy – located in the Strand arcade in city centre, this coffee shop is a beloved spot by locals and tourists. Besides excellent espresso based drinks, they even have some pour over options and coffee equipment available to be purchased.

Room 10 – excellent coffee shop/brunch venue with very relaxed atmosphere located near Kings Cross station. Although it’s only a tiny espresso bar, they somehow manage to seat loads of people at minimalistic style tables in a narrow side street. Besides coffee there are plenty of fresh pastries and brunch offerings to be had.

The Reformatory Coffee Lab – in beautiful Surry Hills area, this tiny caffeine supplier is a coffee geek heaven. They are one of the few centrally based shops that also offer brewed coffee. The style is very minimalistic with no seats but service is very friendly. Limited pastries available.

Campos Coffee – one of the well-known coffee roasters in town, lots of cafes use their beans.

Sample Pro Shop – this place is worth the trip to Marrickville where good coffee is no novelty. It’s an industrial style third wave coffee shop offering various espresso drinks, hot and cold brews, pastries and fresh brunch items.

Coffee Alchemy –  another one of Marrickville speciality coffee shops that has a roasting room and offers various different options for brewed coffees as well as espresso based drinks.

Roastville Coffee – located in the same neighbourhood as the previous café, Roastville has a very relaxed vibe and should definitely be identified as a brunch venue. They do have a cool roaster room that can be seen from the café and they also sell lots of coffee equipment.
